About Us
Inspired by the heritage of Metrodora, a Greek physician who wrote the first known medical text to be authored by a woman, the international Metrodora Awards is returning in 2022!
Following the success of the inaugural event in 2020, this year, the international Metrodora Awards will continue its legacy to recognise women leaders and innovators in science and medicine around the world, especially in key emerging regions of Emerging Asia, Latin America, Africa, Russia/CIS and the Middle East.
The awards are hosted by the International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO), together with title sponsor Viatris, to acknowledge outstanding women who have made significant contributions across all disciplines of scientific research, clinical practice, health education, health policy, and mental health as well as patient advocacy.
Women continue to play a leading role in driving scientific and medical breakthroughs. With each passing year, outstanding women remain committed to dismantling barriers about their participation in science and medicine, especially in emerging economies.
The Metrodora Awards aspire to champion and showcase the achievements of eminent women to drive positive change and inspire more women and girls to follow careers in science and medicine in the years to come.

The 2022 Metrodora Awards will honor four outstanding women leaders in these categories:

Winners will be awarded a grant of $10,000 USD each, Announced at a virtual ceremony held at 4:00 PM UAE time (8:00 PM Singapore time, 12:00 PM UK time) on 30th March 2022.
